Color Hunt
Children find objects of a named color around the room, building color vocabulary.
Ages 24–48 months
Materials
- Familiar objects in several common colors already in the room
- Optional color cards to hold up
Steps
- Name a color and say "Let's find something red!"
- Invite the child to point to or bring an object of that color.
- Confirm and name the object and its color together.
- Repeat with a new color, keeping the pace playful.
Variations
- Go on a color hunt outdoors.
- Let the child choose the color to search for next.
Differentiation
- For younger children, hold up a matching color card as a cue.
- For older children, ask them to find two things of the same color.
Accessibility
- For color vision differences, name objects by label or pattern as well as color.
